The Corbel Vault Earrings are inspired by the building process used for the roof of various passage graves around Ireland. Corbelling is a technique that involves stacking stone slabs on top of each other, gradually narrowing as they rise, forming a vault. The builders of these vaults placed small pebbles and sand between each stone slab to absorb the downward pressure overtime, and as the small pebbles were broken down further, they made the bond between stone slabs even stronger. These passage graves have remained watertight for what is now over 5,000 years.
